After my training as a stonemason (until 1996), I completed a one-year preparatory internship in the restoration workshop of the Cultural-Historical Museum in Magdeburg. I then began my studies at the FHP specialising in the conservation and restoration of stone and, after a practical semester in Cologne and the Rathgen research laboratory in Berlin, graduated in 2001 with a diploma (excellent). Since 2001, I have been working as a freelance graduate restorer throughout Germany. However, one of my main fields of work is the diverse restoration issues at Halberstadt Cathedral, on behalf of the Saxony-Anhalt Cultural Foundation. Since 2014, I have been conducting practical seminars at this location with students of restoration at the TH Cologne (CICS - Cologne Institute of Conservation Sciences Sculpture / Monument Conservation) in collaboration with Prof. Dr. R. Urbanek and the FHP, Prof. G. Hauff (emeritus) and Prof. Dr J. Meinhardt. I successfully completed my doctorate in 2023 at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg on the topic "Die Chorpfeilerfiguren des Halberst?dter Domes. Geschichte-Ikonographie-Technologie"

"Das mittelalterliche Nordquerhausportal des Halberst?dter Domes ¨C Vereinigung von Forschung und restauratorischer Praxis in der Hochschulausbildung"

The project is dedicated to the applied research of the investigation and restoration of medieval natural stone surfaces using the example of the at-risk Nordquerhausportal of Halberstadt Cathedral. In addition to developing various research questions, students on the Conservation and Restoration degree programme specialising in stone will be introduced to various practical issues. The topics of the P3 Prof-Dual project include building research issues as well as conservation science aspects and the planning and implementation of complex conservation measures. Documentation and recording techniques are also part of the project. In addition to analysing and understanding these topics, students should be able to develop reflective approaches to solutions in this thematic context. Communication and the transfer of acquired knowledge play a key role here. The project is part of the profile line Design ? Build ? Preserve. In order to reinforce research at the FHP, the aim is to derive various research projects from the project, including in the fields of art history and conservation science.
